I especially like how this is a novel and interesting result.

  • GJ says:

In more Enlightened circles, the scientist archetype is seen as one of the best (if not the best, or perhaps even the only) manifestation of the New Man, rational and free from superstition, deceit and bias. The importance of this eidolon is such that it can withstand common sense and everyday observations about human nature.

I especially like how this is a novel and interesting result.

For the Enlightened, their view can only collapse under its own weight. Which is what is happening: just as banishing God from science severely undermines belief in the rationality of scientists, treating scientists as god-men falls when science demonstrates that scientists are but men.

  • So your theory is that biologists believe that the editorial staff at Science has been picking which animals reproduce most for the last billion years?

I never can tell when you creationist guys are just babbling word salad in an attempt at humor, or parodying yourselves, or actually trying to make sense, but just in case it’s the last:

You (you, personally) are not actually this stupid. But you spend most of your time inventing clever ways to peddle obvious bullshit to people less intelligent than yourself.

That doesn’t say much for your character. Imagine Jesus *bullshitting* people.

And no, I don’t have the slightest interest in your excuses or rationalizations. That’s just more bullshit. You need somebody who can’t be bullshitted to call you on your bullshit.

    Matthew Walker:

You need somebody who can’t be bullshitted to call you on your bullshit.

Let me know when you find someone.

  • CJ says:

I feel like if he had just said “bullshit” one more time, he would’ve had you.

  • Scott W. says:

I think the kids call this butthurt.

  • Eric says:

No, no, no. I needed at least two, maybe three, more bullshits to convince me.

  • Jack says:

The funny thing about this is that this whole study about crap science was conducted by the machinery of, wait for it… crap science.
Zippy, does this not all mesh, in a way, with the whole liberal / conservative false reality? That science itself is a poor tool to metaphysically speak about itself because of it’s own limitations?

  • TomD says:

A side note to those interested in Evolution from a Magisterial perspective, Fr Michael’s book Catholicism and Evolution: A History from Darwin to Pope Francis is a gold mine of actual references.
