I am going to place a bet right now that Adam Lanza was on or withdrawing from psychotropic medications.  More here (see the list of school shootings by kids on prescription psychotropic drugs at the end) and here.

[Note: the Lewrockwell post has some ridiculous and entirely gratuitous 9-11 truther stuff in the middle.  Linking to it doesn’t mean I don’t think that part is nuttier than a fruitcake.  The list of school shootings with psychotropic medications implicated at the end of that article is publicly verifiable fact.]

Bingo. Googling “Lanza medications” the first hit is from the Washington Post:

“Adam P. Lanza, 20, obscure in life, infamous in death.

A really rambunctious kid, as one former neighbor in Newtown, Conn., recalled him, adding that he was on medication. He was a son of an accountant and a schoolteacher. A family member told investigators that he had a form of autism, a law enforcement official said.

And he will long be remembered.

On Friday morning, police say, he shot and killed his mother in their home. And then, carrying firearms and an abundance of ammunition, he drove to Newtown’s Sandy Hook Elementary School and started shooting.”

Absolutely right. The psychiatrists who prescribe SSRIs should be locked up, along with the rest of the drug-pushing profiteers, their lawyers, and their enablers in the FDA.

They have destroyed so many lives.

  • Karl says:

    Magic words:

Divorced parents, distraught, intelligent, socially awkward son AND Dad REMARRIED.

The only thing which could make this “whole”, would be an annulment from the Catholic Church but that would be too incredible to be true.

    What a nightmare!!

  • Vickie says:

Interesting documentation about the association between antidepressants and shooting rampages. Still the drugs may just be marker for mental illness not a cause of the behavior. A question would be if these drugs are associated with murderous rampages in other countries.

  • Zippy says:

It has been absolutely proven that the drugs are associated with greater violence and suicide. This (among other things) is documented in (among other places) Pharmageddon by Dr. David Healy.

And that is just the statistics. It doesn’t begin to touch the individual stories.

“Sad” is right, except that it isn’t just the SSRI’s. The problem isn’t even limited to psychiatric meds. Anyone who is on long term medication for any condition whatsoever (anything longer than a month) should read Pharmageddon. (I have no association and don’t know the man personally).

  • Vickie says:

Here is a review on SSRI’s for the technically minded. I’ve only skimmed it so far but some of the data is from English Journals.
