It is a lie that Dumbledore is homosexual

Well, not really. But it could be a lie: it could in principle be the case that Rowling did not write Dumbledore as a homosexual character, but rather made that up after the fact to support some other agenda. For example, the agenda which drove her to go on to say:
‘”I know that it was a positive thing that I said it for at least one person because one man ‘came out’ at Carnegie Hall,” Rowling told reporters in Toronto Tuesday morning.’
Soon there will be a market for “I came out because Dumbledore cast a spell on me” T-shirts.
But the point is, if it is possible for it to be a lie that Dumbledore is homosexual, it is also possible for it to be true.

Why would anyone want to read this series of books who hasn’t already, with all this stuff flying about? On broomsticks. What sort of person is this woman? This is someone you want influencing your kids? I’m not even just talking about some sort of separate personal life, but with an agenda like that _related to her books_ a mile high? Ick.
Yes, people have already advanced the “text only” argument, or the <>Sola Pottera<> as it were. As one would expect, many Catholics are unpersuaded by this.>>And yes, I think most people agree that the books are full of Christian elements. But as one poster pointed out, Shelby Spong’s work is full of Christian elements. As is the Gospel of Thomas, as well as any Slayer album.
By the way, her bit about “someone came out that night, so it did some good” reminds me very strikingly of the way an evangelical would say, “And a girl received Jesus as her personal Savior that night, so I really knew that I did some good.” “Coming out” is apparently the upside-down perversion of making a confession of faith and getting saved. Ick.

anonymous, the AP article is pretty distorted. Read the actual comments, in context here: http://the-leaky-cauldron.org/2007/10/20/j-k-rowling-at-carnegie-hall-reveals-dumbledore-is-gay-neville-marries-hannah-abbott-and-scores-more (scroll down)>>One may certainly still find the comments problematic, but let’s at least get em right and in context first.>>It’s important when arguments get as heated (and silly at times) as this stuff has, to make sure we’re accurate. Otherwise it makes it very difficult to be taken seriously when it counts.
[…] is why Gandalf is a Maiar and Dumbledore is gay in the original stories. Fan fiction is, uh, a different story — but in the original […]
